Key benefits
Listed in Orbit's instructor search
Learners search by postcode and filter by manual or automatic and by female instructors. If your area covers them, you show up.
Around 1,000 town pages
Each town page lists the instructors whose area covers it, with automatic and female-instructor versions of every town.
Your profile is your booking page
Learners see your prices, reviews and free slots, then book and pay by card without a phone call.
£30 once per new pupil
Taken from a new pupil's first lesson payment when they book you through Orbit. No fee on their later lessons, and nothing monthly.
Learner requests near you
When a learner's search finds no instructor, they can leave a request. You get a push notification and an email if they're in your area.
Your prices, your pupils
You set your own rates and hours. A pupil who finds you through Orbit stays your pupil, with no commission on their lessons.
How learners find you
Learners looking for lessons search Orbit's instructor directory by postcode, or land on one of around 1,000 town pages from Google. Both list instructors whose service area covers the learner. Tap through and they're on your profile: your prices, your reviews and your free slots. They pick a time and pay by card, and the lesson goes straight into your diary.
- Postcode search with manual, automatic and female-instructor filters
- Town pages for each area, plus automatic and female-instructor versions
- Your profile shows your prices, reviews and live availability
- Learners book and pay by card, with no call or text needed
Complete your profile to appear in search
Switch on Get new pupils automatically in your Get Pupils settings. You can turn it on once your service area is set and card payments are connected. To be listed on the town pages and shown on Google as well, your profile needs a bio and a lesson rate. Orbit shows a checklist of what's missing, with a link to fix each item.
- A bio about you and how you teach
- Your service area: base postcode and how far you travel
- Card payments set up, so learners can book and pay online
- A lesson rate
Claim learner requests for £30
When a learner's search finds no instructor near them, they can leave their details instead. Instructors whose area covers them, who teach the gearbox they want and who have Accept referrals switched on, get a push notification and an email. Before claiming you see the postcode district, the distance and manual or automatic, nothing more. The first instructor to pay £30 by card gets that learner: their name, phone and email, a pupil record in your Orbit with messaging ready to go, and an email to the learner telling them you've picked them up. If someone else claimed first, your £30 is refunded in full.
- Exclusive: each request goes to one instructor
- Postcode district, distance and gearbox shown before you pay
- Learner added to your pupils and told you'll be in touch
- Full refund if another instructor claimed first
- Needs card payments and a lesson rate set up in Orbit
Exactly what it costs
Orbit is free for instructors. There is no subscription, no listing fee and no monthly advertising charge. You only pay when Orbit puts a new pupil in front of you.
- £30 once when a new pupil books you through Orbit's search or town pages, taken from their first lesson payment and never more than that lesson's price
- No fee on that pupil's later lessons, on bookings through your own link, or on pupils you already teach
- £30 to claim a learner's request, refunded if someone else got there first
- Some leads on the Find New Pupils board are unlocked with credits instead: 25 credits in the first week, 10 up to 30 days, 5 up to six months, then 1. Credit packs are bought by card
- Learners pay Orbit's booking fee (the greater of £2.99 or 4%) on top of your price; it never comes out of your payout
